Tuesday, September 9th was our first ever TSC Event!  By Tuesday morning I felt like I had made a mistake.  I mean the invitation said RSVP by August 31st and to date we hadn’t heard back from even half of the people that we had invited! (might I add they were invited after requesting to be invited!)  I felt like the kid who’s party no one wanted to come to, yuk, not a great feeling.  Needless to say I was just being a bit insecure, because we had an awesome turnout!  At around 7:15pm the people started pouring in.  Surprisingly we filled every single chair.  It was great.  Dr.O’Grady did a phenomenal job with his talk.  His audience was captivated.  I was so proud.  I kind of felt like a proud Mom.  Nothing feels better than seeing your hard work being worthwhile.

I guess it might be a good time to tell you about Smartlipo, which is why we were having the event to begin with!  Smartlipo MDX is the 2nd generation of Smartlipo.  Smartlipo is laser assisted liposuction.  The main difference between traditional liposuction and Smartlipo is that the fat is liquified using laser technology before it is remove.  The benefit of this is less trauma, less bruising and bleeding and an over all more sculpted effect.  Laser assisted liposuction is generally for small to moderate volume areas.  Traditional liposuction is used for larger volume removals, but having said that a good candidate is someone who has diet and exercise resistant areas, not someone looking for quick weight loss.

With traditional lipo a patient will incur more pain and downtime and have the need to wear a garment for up to 6 weeks post procedure where Smartlipo patients will typically be ok to go back to work the very next day and require a garment for only 2 weeks.  Also Smartlipo is done in-office under a local anesthetic.  Traditional liposuction needs to be done in a hospital under a general anesthetic which of course can increase the risks.

Again as I have mentioned before, technology increases so quickly its tough to keep up to.  Its important to remember the safety steps as the patient to take before deciding to undergo any procedure, whether it be surgical or cosmetic.  1) Make sure you are seeing a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon 2) Understand all the risk factors 3) Ask your questions 4) don’t decide on a clinic based on price and last 5) Make sure you are totally honest with you Physician (full disclosure).

With these steps covered you can go ahead and make a decision that just may change your life.  A flatter tummy, thinner thighs, the sky seems to be the limit.  Its all very exciting.  What could possibly be next?  Do-it-yourself surgery?  hahaha, it just seems so remarkable how much is happening!  Not that I’m complaining.  I say ‘bring it on!’  We are empowered by choice and there seems to be so many of them.

I will do my best to keep you updated on the in’s and out’s.  The more we know the better off we will be (and hopefully look!)
