A 54 year old woman had a heart attack and was taken to the hospital.

While on the operating table she had a near death experience.. Seeing God
she asked “Is my time up?”

God said, “No, you have another 43 years, 2 months and 8 days to live.”

Upon recovery, the woman decided to stay in the hospital and have a
face-lift, liposuction, breast implants and a tummy tuck.

She even had someone come in and change her hair color and brighten her
teeth! Since she had so much more time to live, she figured she might as
well make the most of it.

After her last operation, she was released from the hospital. While crossing
the street on her way home, she was killed by an ambulance.

Arriving in front of God, she demanded, “I thought you said I had
another 43 years? Why didn’t you pull me from out of the path of the

Despite its conspicuous nature, most Canadians still do not know what Rosacea is or what to do about it. March has been designated Rosacea rosacea_cheek2_big1Awareness Month by the National Rosacea Society to increase public awareness of Rosacea and to highlight the warning signs of this prevalent but little-known condition.

Although Rosacea is becoming increasingly common as the heavily populated baby boom generation enters the most predisposed ages, a Gallup survey found that 69 percent of Canadians have no knowledge of this common disorder now estimated to affect more than 11 million people in Canada alone.
Because of its effects on personal appearance Rosacea can cause devastating psychological and social problems if left untreated. Most Rosacea sufferers said this condition had lowered their self-esteem and self-confidence, with many reporting embarrassment, anxiety and even depression.
Misconceptions and unawareness about Rosacea proliferate, and many people with this disorder are unaware that they have a medical condition that can be easily treated. The social and emotional effects of this condition can affect a person’s quality of life. If diagnosed early, the advanced effects of this skin disorder can be prevented.

Anyone with one or more of the following warning signs of Rosacea should see a skin specialist:
• Redness on the cheeks, nose, forehead or chin.
• Small visible blood vessels on the face.
• Bumps and pimples on the face.
• Watery or irritated eyes.

Without treatment, these symptoms tend to become increasingly severe, and in advanced cases, especially in men, the nose may grow swollen and bumpy from excess tissue. This condition is called Rhinophyma and may require surgery to repair.
While Rosacea symptoms tend to be more severe in men, it is more commonly diagnosed in women. Rosacea typically first appears in one 30’s but can show up as late as in one’s 50’s.
The good news is that the unattractive effects of this chronic and potentially serious condition can be simply controlled.
Treatments include topical lotions, antibiotics and light based treatments. One of my favorite methods to treat and control Rosacea is IPL, (Intense Pulse Light). This treatment can quickly treat the negative effects of moderate Rosacea symptoms like; flushing and blushing, pimples, redness and the appearance of vessels. In most cases the results are very quick and without downtime. Discuss your options with your skin care specialist to find out what method of treatment would be best for you. I think I’m in love!!! I have never been this happy about a diet in my life!!! Let me start off by saying I have lost 10lbs!!! Yes you heard me, 10 lbs weight-lossin 12 days. This isn’t the only thing for me to be thrilled about. I feel amazing! I actually feel like I have uncovered the secret to happy, healthy weight loss!
Each day seems to get better and better. I am never hungry, I have no cravings and that is even when surrounded by temptation.
I have a ton of energy and I am sleeping better than I ever have.
I’m not really here to be the science behind the diet, just a testimonial to it.
In the past outside events were always my downfall on any given diet. I would go with all good intentions but after a drink (or 2) I would easily slip. Slips could sometimes last days, weeks or even months. I know you can understand as we have all been there.
With Ideal Protein I don’t even feel the need. I was at a dinner party last night at a restaurant. I ordered my meal very carefully following my limitations. No problem, but because we were such a large party in a very busy restaurant the waitress messed up and forgot my meal. On one side of me someone was eating fried calamari and sweet potato fries, on the other side lamb chops and coconut shrimp. It was late and well past the dinner hour and  nothing in me wanted to break. I can’t believe it myself. This was truly a first  for me.
I’m sure it’s partly my success thus far, but to not even want it??? That to me was unimaginable!!!
I feel like I can finally see the end of the tunnel of yo-yo weight loss and weight gain. I now know I will not only get to my goal but I have the ability to be the weight I want and its within reach!! More than all this I know I have a tool that will follow me through vacations, events and possibly even another pregnancy. (I don’t mean during pregnancy of course, after!)
Everyone on the diet currently is experiencing the same success’ and the same emotions as I am. Where has this been all my life, and why don’t more people know about it???

Imagine 3 more weeks and I will be at my goal weight!!! Its unbelievable. I am so ecstatic. I never thought there would be a day when I could stick to a diet and actually get through it. Today’s the day and I see the light.

For those of you on Ideal Protein already, here is a dinner recipe I came up with, that is so yummy it’s hard to imagine it’s part of your restrictions.  I made it for my family and they thought I was off the diet!

Baked Salmon

4 7oz Salmon Fillets

1/2 cup of low sodium soya sauce

1 heaping tbsp of fresh chopped garlic

pepper (to taste)

refined sea salts

2 packets of splenda

juice from 1 lemon

4 lemon slices

Preheat oven to 400 bake

In a 9 by 12 glass cookware spray with pam and lay salmon fillets skin down.  Sprinkle the fish with your sea salts and pepper.  In a small bowl mix garlic, soya, lemon juice, splenda, pepper.  Stir well and spoon over the fish.  There will be lots of garlic on top.  You can use the entire mixture.  Take remaining lemon slices and place on each piece of fish.  Place in oven uncovered for 25 minutes.  (approx 10 min per inch thickness).

This is so yummy you could serve to guests and they would never even realize that you were on a diet.  Let me know how it goes.  I will post more recipes next week.

Hi Everyone,

I am pleased to announce that I am still alive and kicking. I am surprised to say that this really isn’t to bad.  I have done many diets in my life, diet-weight-loss-linksbut never one with so many restrictions and I thought that I would be suffering.  I must be honest, I love food!  For the better part of a day I’m thinking about what to eat, what’s for dinner and if I should have another snack.  I usually overcompensate for this behavior by taking an extra kick boxing class or some standing jumping jacks always help.  But alas this yo-yo dieting needs to stop once and for all!!!!

I can’t believe how great I feel.  I am not hungry at all.  That’s not to say that I’ll ever be able to walk by a piece of chocolate with out mourning, but the fact that I’m thinking about it less is a giant step in the right direction.  I have just finished day 5.  Honestly I didn’t even think I would get this far without some kind of breakdown or cheat, but I did.  Maybe it’s because of the public broadcast, but whatever it is I feel kind of proud.

I’m really enjoying the foods that are provided on this diet.  I have taken the road of least resistance.  Even though there are many different options to choose from I have decided to have as little variation as possible to keep things simple.  My day starts with a pre-made shake (chocolate of course) , a bottle of water and some supplements (potassium, multi-vitamin and calcium-mag).  I drink the shake in the car on the way to work.  It’s not just good it’s fabulous and it really fills you up.  I would have to say this shake is my favorite part of my food day.  Lunch is my next meal (you can decide how you space your foods out) and I choose to have the pasta (or so its called).  My office manager Pina prepares it for me which makes things soooo nice :-) .  I have to have two cups of steamed vegetables with this meal, so I bring those from home and mix them directly into my pasta.  The pasta is an Ideal Protein meal that you just add water to and warm up in the microwave.  It’s actually quite yummy and when you mix in your veggies you feel like you are eating a big meal.  It’s very filling and I don’t feel deprived.  On the contrary I’m probably eating more food,  more regularly now then I ever have before.  At around 3pm I have a snack.  I choose the chocolate drink (big surprise)  It’s another protein pack that you just mix with cold water.  It tastes like chocolate milk, not kind of like it, actually chocolate milk.  Nothing wrong with that!!!  Dinner is 5oz of protein or 7oz of seafood, 2 cups of steamed veggies and unlimited lettuce and cucumber.  So I grill a chicken breast with some lemon and pepper and a bit of soy sauce and steam some broccoli and cauliflower.  It’s  ok. This is probably my least favorite meal of the day just because I have always been such a dinner person.  I mean I cook for my family everyday (or I used too) and I loved coming up with new and tasty meals.  Well for the time being those days are done, and I am definitely not cooking for anyone. That would be too painful.  My husband is coping ok, I think he snuck out to Harvey’s the other night, but what can you do?  At around 9pm I can have a snack.  I really like the vanilla pudding.  It is so delicious.  The best part is I usually have to force myself to make this snack because I’m not even hungry.  I’m supposed to drink 4 bottles of water a day (500ml bottles), but this  I find more difficult than the whole diet.  Ugggg, I’m in the ladies room every five minutes.  I figure that the back and forth to the bathroom must also be a good extra calorie burn….all that movement :-)

I had a business dinner this week and I was so worried about how I was going to eat without making a spectacle of myself.  I spoke to the waiter in advance and told him my restrictions.  He told me no problem.  I had a 3 course meal at the Octagon and didn’t cheat!!!  I started with a green salad.  I had oil and vinegar on the side and added what was allowed.  My main course was a salmon steak grilled with only lemon and pepper with a side of steamed vegetables.  It was so yummy.  I finished my meal with a cup of coffee.  I was satisfied and proud, for me this was a real success.  Some how I think with more limitations it makes it easier to stick because there is no question of what you can and can’t do.

Now I’m not going to lie, I would have lovvvved a Martini, but not as much as I’d like a smaller tush, so sacrifice made and I’m better for it.

It’s 5 days and I’ve lost 5 pounds.  Can you believe it????  It’s kind of crazy that I lost that much weight and I’m not even totally miserable.  I don’t want to get too excited because I still have 3 and 1/2 weeks to go.  I really think I can do this though!!!!

Tomorrow is my beautiful nephews 4th b-day party.  I’m a bit worried. I mean there will be cake!!!!  I’m planing to save my chocolate drink for dessert so I can have something sweet while they serve the delicious, icing covered, layer cake.  I’m bringing my own dinner with me in a tupperware.  I never thought I’d be that girl.  I guess what my doctor told me is true.  My weight has always been my choice.  So now I’m choosing it over cake.  I think I’ll be happier with this choice in the long run than the piece of cake in the short run.

Eyal (the nutritionist)  is also doing extremely well on this diet.  He cheats a bit though.  He has an infrared sauna at home and he’s been sweating off extra calories on top of the fact that men already lose weight faster.  I will have to check the manual, but as far as I’m concerned this is just not fair.  We have discussed my concerns, he just laughs at me.  Sooo not funny ;-)

So in summary, this really isn’t  bad.  I think I am well on my way to achieving not just my goal weight but a new sense of self.  It’s really very exciting.  I promise to update again soon.

Hi Everyone

Sorry for the hiatus, I haven’t had anything to exciting to blog about lately. Things have been pretty status quo; working watching my new baby img_7151girl grow (like a weed) and trying to keep my other girl in tact as she ventures in to her teenage years….its a whirl wind to say the least.
As some of you may already know we have recently introduced Eyal Fishman to our growing practice. Eyal is a Nutritionist who is passionate about health, beauty and over all wellness.  A perfect addition to Thornhill Skin Clinic.
So originally when Eyal came on board I had no plans on participating in his main diet program Ideal Protein. I have been doing Weight Watchers for the last 9 weeks (trying hard to get the post baby chubbiness off) and being reasonably successful at it without having to make any grand sacrifices. I mean lets be honest, I lovvvvveeee food!   In my head I have aspired to be a fabulous anorexic but the reality is if I wasn’t careful I could easily be a heavy weight champion on the biggest loser. Weight loss has been a life long struggle for me. I’m not one of those naturally skinny girls with a ‘fast metabolism’! I actually think I’m metabolically challenged; if that’s such a thing??? Anyways after our information evening at the clinic last Thursday I was somehow convinced. I would like to say I am so excited and I know this is for me… but that would be a lie. I am dreading waking up tomorrow and beginning this program.
To make sure I go out with a bang, I called my husband on the way home from work tonight and told him we were all having McDonald’s for dinner. He cracked up and  asked me ‘if this was my last meal or something?’ and I was like ‘obviously’!!!  So I ate my Big Mac and fries (I drew the line at super sizing). You may think this sounds a bit insane, but for the next 4 weeks I am officially giving up on all the things I love!!! No sushi, no pasta, no sauces, no fruit, no sugar…..I’ll stop there because I feel tears welling up. I figured if this is truly my last diet as ‘Ideal Protein’ claims to be then I’d better get it all in now.
After a wonderful family dinner I was off to the grocery store to pick up the necessary items to help me through this challenge. The grocery store became increasingly smaller as I realized there were very few things that were there for me. I did buy myself a large dairy milk chocolate bar to make myself feel better. It worked for the moment…
Eyal has assured me that by Saturday I am going to feel amazing. I won’t be hungry, I’ll be energized and best of all I will already feel lighter. All I can say to that is, ‘I’ll believe it when i see it!! I challenged Eyal today to do Ideal Protein with me. I had 2 reasons:  first misery loves company and second why should I be the only one suffering??? So game on Eyal, game on!

I do feel a little sorry for my family who is used to yummy home cooked meals every night because its all over.  I got a feeling everyone is about to lose a few pounds.  As I said misery loves company ;-) .  I was telling my nanny tonight that she could make whatever she wanted and to tell me what she would like me to buy for her and her response was ‘I’ll just eat bread Shawn’.  I was like, must be nice to be a size zero and eat bread for a living…uggggggg!!!

Ideal Protein is broken down into 3 phases.  Phase 1 begins tomorrow. This being the strictest and most challenging. This is the stage when I will lose all my weight.  The best part is I will lose all the flab and softness. So 4 weeks isn’t the end of the world I guess, even if it feels like it right now.

I’m writing this blog to make myself accountable.  Accountable to me and to you.  The truth is, if I can do this anyone can.  Thank you for taking this journey with me.  I promise to be honest and give you the real truth about this diet, so if your thinking about it let me be your guide.
