Well this is my first blog so bear with me as I get the hang of all of this?

I am planning to use this space to give you all the in’s and out’s of what is happening in the cosmetic world.  There is so many exciting things happening that it is truly hard to keep up.

Today’s topic of discussion is going to be an old one.  Photo Aging.  Do people not understand that the sun is one of the most controllable environs of aging?  It seems to me that most people will justify their behaviour until it’s too late, and then blame it on something lame, like genetics.  Even though genetics do have play in the way we will inevitably age, exposure has more and we have the power to control it.  UVA and UVB exposure destroy your skins natural ability to reproduce new cells, in turn, slowing down the cell renewal process and allowing the skin to age right before our eyes.  Not to mention it won’t be looking too pretty with the secondary side effects, like uneven tone and texture.  Laxitity and the development of rytids around the eyes and mouth. Oh and don’t forget the loss of volume, thats always a kicker;-)  Please don’t get me wrong, all these elements are the desirable effects that keep me in business, but alas I must be a responsible voice of reason and help you all stay as young on the outside, as you feel on the inside.

Wear your SUNSCREEN!!!  You must wear a sunscreen (min, 30) 365 days a year.  The clouds and greyness of winter do not protect you!  I hear a common argument on a regular basis..”I’m not outside…I just go to work, blah, blah, blah.”  We are all exposed, even for the 20 minute car ride to the gym, or mall.  As a little scientific experiment, try and keep a watch on the left cheek of all your friends over the age of 40…may be interesting to see what you find?

The damaging rays are around us during all daylight hours, so this means on rainy days too.  Finding a sunscreen that your comfortable with can sometimes be difficult due to texture and scent.  There are so many options now, that are made specifically for your face and skin type.  It is worth your while to try a few different ones, until you find the one that your most comfortable with.

Of course when you are travelling to those wonderful destination, re-application is a MUST!  30SPF means 30 minutes in the sun before re-application is required!  Did you know that?  Its interesting how many people didn’t.  When I ask a few randoms they all thought it was something to do with the strength of protection.  Very interesting!  These very simple rules will not only protect you from that awful, unforgiving sun, it can also protect you from skin cancer.  Seems most people are less worried about their over all health then they are about their vanity.  Whatever keeps you straight is just fine with me, so your mission for the day is to find a sunscreen that works for you, and make it part of your everyday, no different than brushing your teeth!

Of course don’t hesitate to contact me for suggestions of brands that might be most effective for your skin type, I am always here to help.

Next topic….How to remove the sundamage we have already caused????

Stay tuned.
